Texas is an Interesting State Politically

I have been down here in Texas for a couple of weeks and it is sort of weird the way things are different down here. Of course you have a different mix of ethnic groups here than you have back where I come from. We have Hispanic people in North Carolina, but here there are a lot more of them. Some of them have been living in this area for generations and others have just come across the border. At any rate you have some interesting laws, I like the one you can find out about here http://energyproviderstexas.com. In Texas you can pick which electric company you want. In NC you get Duke Energy, which is part of the Southern Company. There are a couple of small power companies in other smaller areas, but I never got to find out about them. I have seen the facilities of Carolina Power and Light up in the area on the Mountains near the Tennessee border. They have a power plant you can see from I 40 some place near the Pigeon River

On the other hand they have a lot of really bizarre and reactionary types out here. The Texas Education Agency has made it’s job to make the text books in all of the state’s schools conform to the Biblical time lines. That is really a big deal, not funny at all, because you have a lot of Textbooks which are going to end up in other states with this same sort of thing going on. Of course you should clearly differentiate between the public education system and private religious ideologies. It is not hard to look around in the world and see all sorts of problems which have been caused by people who want to impose their religious views on everyone else.

Taking Control of the Vulnerability

As a victim of a home invasion I have come to realize that the entire night only occurred because I was lacking anything remotely resembling home security systems. After living through that horrible experience I have made the necessary steps to ensure that this will never happen again or, should it occur despite the layers of security I have enshrouded myself within, I will not be as helpless as I was that night. Anyone who has ever been through a home invasion can tell you first hand just how terrifying it is to wake up knowing someone has forced their way into your home with ill intent.

I remember lying in bed shocked that this could be happening to me. I didn’t have a weapon that I could reach to. I didn’t have a plan. I didn’t do anything but call the police as soon as I was able to gather my wits about me but even that wasn’t enough. They were quick with going through the home which lead them right to me. I thought I was going to die. I really did. He stood there outlined in the darkness of the night but, thankfully, he only proceeded to lock me in my own room while I cowered waiting for the police to arrive.

I won’t ever be the victim again. I’ve been taking self-defense classes, martial arts and I installed the best home security that I could afford. I have now armed myself with noise detectors, motion detectors, flood lights and motion activated cameras. There’s no way that someone is ever going to get into my home and get away with it. This is the only thing that I knew I could do to help me overcome the feeling of vulnerability that had gripped me so powerfully soon after it happened.
